Your part in Arbitron's radio ratings
Founded in 1949, Arbitron Ratings is one of the leading radio ratings companies in the United States. We measure radio listening across the country. More than 800 people in our Maryland office (located between Washington, DC, and Baltimore) produce the radio ratings reports for cities nationwide. Radio stations depend on the radio ratings to decide what to put on the air.

This is your chance to count in the radio ratings!
No matter how much you listen to radio—a little, a lot or not at all—you're an important part of the radio ratings. Only select households across America are asked to take part in the ratings. When you say yes, your radio listening counts in the radio ratings for your area.

About our radio ratings...
The radio ratings estimate how many people listen to each station. Radio stations use the ratings to learn what people like to hear on the radio. TOP

When you and the others in your home write down in an Arbitron diary what you hear on the radio, you're providing information that helps radio stations decide what to broadcast.

We can't ask everyone about their radio listening. We randomly choose households like yours to represent the people in your area.

Everyone in your household age 12 and older receives a seven-day radio diary to write down all of their radio listening. If you don't hear a radio on any day, just mark the "no listening" box for that day.

Your diary week starts on Thursday and goes through Wednesday. Your exact diarykeeping dates are printed on the front and back covers of your diaries. Return all the diaries to us the day after. Postage is paid!

Completed diaries are the only way radio stations learn what programs people want to hear.

Radio listening information is combined from diarykeepers in the area to give radio stations their ratings.

Arbitron Ratings is committed to supporting our community.

Our employees frequently volunteer to tutor students through a partnership with Talbott Springs Elementary School and Hammond High School, both here in Columbia, MD.

In addition, it is not unusual to see our employees supporting breast cancer research by running in the Race for the Cure; walking for healthy babies in the March of Dimes Walk America; building and remodeling homes for the needy during Christmas in April; and donating blood to The American Red Cross. These are just a few of the projects that our company supports year-round.

We strongly believe that the community that supports us deserves our support in return.
